I personally enjoy visiting the optometrist. There's one machine where there are different lenses, and then you have to choose which ones make the words clearest. I find it amazing was how clear or blurry the words become just from switching lenses. The words are suddenly in focus and very easy to read. Interestingly, I hadn't really realized that the words were out of focus until the optometrist flips through the lenses.
Colossians 3:1-2 (The Message)
'So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going around Christ - that's where the action is. See things from his perspective.'
Sometimes I thing that is how we live life every day...not quite in focus. Or perhaps we focus on the wrong things. At times, we can be so shortsighted that we miss what is all around us. What are you focusing on? I have found that I tend to head toward what I am focusing on.
Jesus visited His disciples one time by walking on the water. Peter thought that was pretty cool, so he asked Jesus if he could do it too. Jesus said, "Come on, Peter." Peter stepped out of the boat (which must have taken a lot of courage!) and walked toward Jesus. He was doing fine until he took his eyes off of Jesus and focused on the stormy sea and the wind. When Peter's focus changed, he began to sink.
What are you focusing on? Getting through a challenge? Then you might have to take your eyes off of the wind and waves and focus on what God has done for you. He has seen you through all sorts of tough times. He will see you through this one too! Don't focus on the storm: Focus on God and His promises for you!!

Where Are You Fixing Your Eyes?
A great book to read that talks about Peter walking on water and deals with overcoming fears is "If you want to walk on water you have to get out of the boat" by John Ortberg.
God Bless,
Janine
