The Right Attitude

I'm sure you all have heard the phrase, "garbage in, garbage out." Have you ever thought about what it actually means? It means that your thoughts affect your attitude. If I think of negative things, my attitude isn't going to be all that positive. Allow me to illustrate:

Bad thoughts => Meditated thoughts => Decision => Action => Continued action => Bad attitude!

Let's say that I know someone named Finnigan and that I think he is annoying. He might not be, but for some reason, I think he is. This is a bad thought, obviously. The more I think about Finnigan being annoying, the more I believe it and I will eventually decide that he is, in fact, annoying and that I don't want to be around him. So, I decide that anytime I see him, I will avoid him. This will start to come out in my actions towards him and soon, as I continue to avoid and ignore him, I will start avoiding and ignoring his friends because, if they are friends with Finnigan, they must be annoying, too. This will, ultimately, affect my attitude towards Finnigan and I will, quite possibly, have missed an opportunity to make a new friend because of my original bad thought.

Make sense? The good new is, this is the exact same for good thoughts:

Good though => Meditated thought => Decision => Action => Continued action => Good attitude! WOOT!

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things. --Philipians 4:8

If your thoughts are good, they will be reflected in your attitude. The simplest way to keep your thoughts good is found in Colossians 3:2:

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Keep your thoughts on God! Think of it this way: "Christ in, Christ out." If you keep your thoughts on Jesus Christ, a Christ-like attitude will be the outcome.

Want the right attitude? This first step is to keep your thoughts fixed on Christ and the good things He does. Then you'll have an attitude that reflects Christ and that's the best attitude there is!

Really Good post Kyla. The attitude we have about someone, something, or some situation can alter the way we see things. Keep it up!!
