Which came first?

I wanted to explain why evolution and God can never be married together in any way by those who trust the bible as God’s word. Evolution assumes that death, disease, and mutation can little by little cause changes in the genetic codes found in all living creatures. If enough time passes by, these changes are supposed to add up to big changes, and the result is that a gecko becomes a geek, a rhino becomes a rock star, a turtle becomes a teacher, and chemical goo becomes you…or something like that anyway. I’m sure you get the point. Let me encourage you there is NO evidence for this kind of bad science, but let’s save that for another time.

As a bible trusting Christian, the problem becomes real big, real fast, if we try to marry “in the beginning God…” with “in the beginning goo…” The problem is death. Romans 5:12 says;

Therefore, even as through one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin…”

Before Adam sinned, there was no such a thing as death in the world! Evolution depends on millions of years of death, disease, and mutation to be true. Evolution teaches death first, then sin. The bible teaches sin first, and death is the punishment for sin. See the contradiction? There is no way to explain this away because the bible is so clear in what it teaches. There are many evolutionists who see this and laugh at us when Christians try to compromise by marrying the two.

Why is this so important? If we try to mix these two teachings together, we can’t understand sin properly. Sin then is no longer complete failure to keep God’s commandments. If we change the meaning of sin, then we also have to change the meaning of the death of Jesus to pay for our sin. That is where we end up if we compromise what God clearly says in the bible. Jesus is our everything.

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth…” (Gen 1:1)

And, ‘You, Lord [Jesus], have laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the works of Your hands.’” (Heb 1:10)

Grace and peace’
